Celebrate Chinese New Year

In just ten days’ time we’ll be joining the rest of the world in celebrating the Chinese New Year!

Also known as Chinese Spring Festival, it starts on 26 th January and ends on 4 th February. The festival has more than 4000 years of history and is the longest holiday of the year. Every year is symbolised by one of the 12 spirit animals of the Chinese zodiac and 2020 is The Year of the Rat.

What’s in store in PS? Our courtyard will be transformed and will feature our sumptuous pagoda, red carpet and paper lanterns – perfect for a photo opportunity. One tradition we’ll be keeping up is the giving of red envelopes – traditionally the envelopes were filled with cash and given out to families and employees – PS staff will be handing out red envelopes filled with prizes and shoppers
will be able to take advantage of discounts in our stores and restaurants.

We’ll also be running a series of FREE Chinese craft workshops – great for all the family to take part in. On Sunday 26 th January you can make a paper lantern or dragon puppet or try your hand at Chinese calligraphy at our taster session. On Saturday 1 st February, you can learn the art of origami, create a calligraphy tattoo and make a Chinese New Year hanging decoration. On Sunday 2 nd February you can take part in the chopstick challenge, make paper lanterns and Chinese calligraphy. The workshops take place from 1-4pm each day. No need to book, just drop in.

Katie Moody from Princes Square said: “Following on from the success of last year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, we’ve transformed our courtyard area with a Chinese pagoda and red carpet – the perfect backdrop for selfies or an Instagram story. We’re asking shoppers to keep their eyes peeled for our red envelopes which contain prizes and offers for our stores and restaurants. We’d love you to share your pics on our channels using the hashtag #PSChineseNewYear2020.”
